On November 16, 2020, the General Statistics Office held a Workshop on Development orientation of economics statistic: Current situation and way forward to 2045 with the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, (UNESCAP). The workshop was held directly in Hanoi and online at the UNESCAP representative bridge. Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of the General Statistics Office chaired the workshop.

Attending the workshop directly in Hanoi are the leaders of the General Statistics Office; Leadership representatives of units under the GSO and many delegates are former leaders of the GSO, former leaders of departments, units under the GSO and provincial statistical office (PSO). Attending the workshop were representatives of a number of international organizations, representatives of relevant ministries and branches; representatives of some domestic agencies and experts. Ms. Gemma Van Halderen – Head of Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and experts from UNESCAP attend online.

Xổ số kiến ​​thiết chủ nhật Minh NgọcOpening speech of the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong said that, on October 18, 2011, the Prime Minister approved the Vietnam Statistical Development Strategy (VSDS) for the period 2011 – 2020 with a vision to 2030. After 10 years of implementing the Strategy, Vietnam statistics always followed to the goals and contents of 9 action plans. Vietnam statistics has increasingly been modern and prestigious in the world and the region. Statistical information is trusted, used and highly appreciated by domestic and international users. Therefore, re-assessing current status of Vietnam statistics, studying the world statistical tendency and identifying the main orientations in the next stage of statistical development strategy is very important, especially in the field of economic statistics.

 According to Director General Nguyen Thi Huong, this workshop will focus on the following four main contents: (i) the development tendency of the world statistics; (ii) Vietnam’s socio-economic development strategy and issues posed for the statistics operation; (iii) identification of important development orientations for economic statistics in the next 10-25 years; (iv) other issues such as approaches, main solutions, implementation organization.

As a field in the production of statistics, economic statistics involves all steps of the statistical information production process, covering all activities that produce statistical information describing state and movement of economic phenomena, both in time and in space. Economic statistics is also intended to meet the needs of information for the development of economic models.

She believes that the Vietnam Statistical Development Strategy is an opportunity to put in place what is needed for 2021-2030 and the foundations for post-2030 and suggest some recommended actions for consideration to the General Statistics Office.

Delegates highly appreciated the implementation results of the Vietnam Statistical Development Strategy for the period 2011-2020 and a vision to 2030. Since then the workshop discussed the development orientation of economic statistics, Vietnam’s socio-economic development strategy 2021 – 2030 and issues posed for the work of statistics.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong , Director of the General Statistics Office pointed out the important role of this Strategy and emphasized that Viet Nam statistics needs to clearly define statistical products, statistical quality, the functional role of statistics and each unit, each part of Viet Nam statistics needs to identify specific actions for each year as well as the 10-year period 2021-2030.

The workshop was the message about the implementation of strategic development for Viet Nam statistics, building the future of Viet Nam statistics in serving Communist Party, State agencies and users. The development of Viet Nam statistics should be associated with the quality of statistics, ensuring honesty, objectivity, accuracy, adequacy and timeliness as prescribed by the Law on Statistics. She highly appreciated the presentations, enthusiastic and responsible input and contribution of delegates and experts. These are valuable information to help the General Statistics Office have a basis to build the Vietnam Statistical Development Strategy for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045./.
